插畫（Illustration）又稱插圖。Illustration一詞定義不一，解釋繁多，其主要功能是將文字內容、故事或思想以視覺化的方式呈現。也因此插畫的應用十分廣泛，凡書籍、雜誌、報紙、說明書、小說、教科書等刊物，在文字中插入的裝飾文案、繪畫，都統稱為插畫。總地來說，插畫是一種結合藝術創作與文字(非語言和語言)的藝術表現，有著「敘說」內在思維的傳播性。

An illustration is a visualization such as a drawing, painting, photograph or other work of art that stresses subject more than form. The aim of an illustration is to elucidate or decorate textual information (such as a story, poem or newspaper article) by providing a visual representation.

水墨

Chinese ink painting

水墨畫，是中國繪畫的代表，也就是狹義的「國畫」。

中國水墨畫的特點是：近處寫實，遠處抽象，色彩單調，意境豐富。
彩色的水墨畫在近代有潑墨山水的應用，也有水墨動畫的應用。與水墨畫有關的還有水墨版畫。與一般版畫不同的是，水墨版畫雖然也是木刻版畫，但使用宣紙做為紙材，在不同的地方重複水墨印刷，層層渲染的效果，使得每一張作品都明顯不同，也具有水墨畫的美感。

hinese painting is one of the oldest continuous artistic traditions in the world. The earliest paintings were not representational but ornamental; they consisted of patterns or designs rather than pictures. Stone Age pottery was painted with spirals, zigzags, dots, or animals. It was only during the Warring States Period (403-221 B.C.) that artists began to represent the world around them.
